Gmail app for iOS finally gets push notifications, persistent logins

Google has now (finally!) updated its iOS Gmail application to add push support, which simply means that you get full message excerpts notifying you about new and unread email in real time. The new Gmail app updates appear directly in your Notification Center. Also, you get banners, alerts and lock screen notifications when you get new mail. Google has also fixed the login process, so you don’t have to type in your credentials every once in a while, when your session expires, but instead you get to be persistently logged in.
As long as you’ve got another Gmail account set up, the app now allows sending email from it, but we’d still wish for multiple account support and a more native feel to the app. Still, Gmail for iOS has come a long way and it’s definitely worth checking out.
