RIM haven’t met a wireless data standard they didn’t like, according to news from MWC 2011, where our man on the inside is dishing up the news as soon as the Internet can take them. This is bound to throw some sort of wrench into your PlayBook purchasing plans, especially since the two new versions will only hit in the second half of 2011. Unless you don’t have any, in which case you should be perfectly fine. This latest nugget brings the number of PlayBook models to four, namely the WiFi only, WiFi + WiMax, WiFi + LTE and WiFi +HSPA err… +. Last I checked there were loads more different combinations possible so those of you holding your breath for a UMTS + EDGE + smoke signal PlayBook may yet get your wish. RIM also took the opportunity to hype up the release of their App World in over 100 countries, but we’ve temporarily misplaced our chirping cricket sample sound so you’ll have to make do with the good old sound of nobody caring.
