Google has been thinking about more granular permissions control on Android

It is really nice that Android allows you to see everything on your device that an app will have access to in the permissions but it can get annoying that it is an all-or-nothing choice. For instance, you may love the Amazon app, but you don't see any reason why the app should need to access your WiFi/GPS location data.  However, there is no way to deny that one permission and still use the app, but Google may be thinking about changing that.

Google software engineer Dianne Hackborn admitted that the Android team has thought about that exact issue and has also considered changing the permissions model to give users more granular control. This would enable you to pick and choose which permissions to accept & which to deny. Since there are no concrete plans to implement such a system anytime soon, it is all just a hypothetical possibility.

Yahoo has been working extremely hard to make Flickr the best photo storage service of the bunch in the age of photo competition from all sides. Today was a big step in the right direction as Flickr is now offering 1 terabyte of free space and also Yahoo updates the Android app with a more visual pop.  The update brings Android's Flickr app to version 2.0, which is an update that iOS saw back in December. So, the Android update now features the new edge-to-edge photo layout, 16 photo filters, and more.

At present, Flickr has just pulled a Gmail. Similar to Gmail caused a huge shift in what was offered for email storage, Flickr has a chance to do that for photo storage. Every user now gets 1 terabyte free. Google now offers 15GB of shared storage between Gmail, G+ Photos, and Drive, and it would cost $49.99 per month to upgrade that to 1TB. Flickr is giving it to you for free.

The Jolla Smartphone is now official and it's simply called Jolla. The device is running the company's Meego-based Sailfish OS, which is now officially confirmed to support Android apps.

Jolla's specs are not completely revealed at this point. The phone packs a 4.5" display at the front and 8MP snapper at the back. There is 16GB of built-in storage, and user can expand that through the on-board microSD card slot. The battery is user replaceable, which lets half of the phone to snap out of the other half and as a result giving access to the battery. This Smartphone is available in these colors - light blue, green, white and orange.  Users will be able to interchange their back covers. After that, Jolla's Sailfish OS will identify which color is on and will adapt the theme of the UI to the color.

HTC One gets updated to Android 4.2.2 in a matter of weeks

May 20
by Kulbir Kaur 20. May 2013 17:30

According to an insider, HTC One is just week away from getting updated to Android 4.2.2. It is not a surprise that owners of the device want the  Android update build on their phone considering  that the Android 4.2.2 has been rolling out to various devices since February. HTC One owners must be wondering why they could not get the same software under the hood when the model was launched as Samsung Galaxy S4 was released with Android 4.2.2 pre-installed. As per a source, the HTC One's update to Android 4.2.2 will take place in just two to three weeks. Google has planned to honor the request of some manufacturers who have yet to update their models to more recent Android builds, and don't want their phones to be left too far behind the most up to date version of the OS. For instance, there are many models that remain on Android 4.1 and if Android 5.0 is released, those phones would be two updates behind. HTC is trying to reverse its fortunes with the sleek and sexy design of the HTC One, which includes an aluminum casing, and front facing stereo speakers.  The manufacturer's BlinkFeed enables content from the user's social networks to be streamed to a home page. As per reports, HTC One is selling well but not quite up to the brisk sales pace of the Samsung Galaxy S4 which is Samsung's fastest selling phone.
