Later this month, Windows Phone users were the recipient of a new YouTube app . However, the app did violate three Google regulations. Firstly, it blocked ads from appearing on the videos. Secondly, it allowed users to download videos onto their devices. Thirdly, it also allowed Windows Phone users to view videos that were specifically not supposed to play over mobile devices. As predicted, Google forced Microsoft to take down the site.

However, a new version of the YouTube app will be available for Windows Phone users with two-thirds of Google's concerns addressed later on Wednesday. According to Microsoft, it has no objections to playing ads before running YouTube videos.  The update still does not allow YouTube ads to run on Windows Phone devices. These two problems solved by Wednesday's update will prevent videos from being downloaded onto a device, and will restrict videos that were not set up for mobile play, from being viewed. According to Microsoft, “We have been in contact with Google and continue to believe that our two companies can work together to hone an app that benefits our mutual customers, partners and content providers. We're earning new customers every day, with IDC reporting recently that Windows Phone posted the largest year-over-year gain among leading operating systems. We look forward to working with Google to maintain a great YouTube experience for the growing number of people who rely on both of our respective products.”

Today happens to be the deadline given by Google to Microsoft to take down the app, but Microsoft's new update will replace it by the time Wednesday is over.

May 17
by Kulbir Kaur 17. May 2013 17:30

Google in their latest move has asked Microsoft to remove Youtube application from Windows Phone 8 devices and app marketplace. However, the reason for this demand is that the app doesn't allow advertisements. Also, it allows users to download videos from Youtube. These are considered to be violations of Youtube's terms of use. As a result, there are no ads that means no revenue for Google and content creators. Therefore, it hits the Google's very source of revenue. According to a letter by Google to Microsoft, Google has asked Microsoft to "immediately withdraw this application from the Windows Phone Store and disable existing downloads of the application by Wednesday, May 22, 2013." As per Microsoft spokesperson, “We'd be more than happy to include advertising but need Google to provide us access to the necessary APIs." It is hoped that the issue is resolved in time and the Windows Phone users do not suffer from this wrangling between two companies. In case, Youtube app is pulled out of Windows Phone store, users can still access youtube.com through their phones browser.
