Yahoo has been working extremely hard to make Flickr the best photo storage service of the bunch in the age of photo competition from all sides. Today was a big step in the right direction as Flickr is now offering 1 terabyte of free space and also Yahoo updates the Android app with a more visual pop.  The update brings Android's Flickr app to version 2.0, which is an update that iOS saw back in December. So, the Android update now features the new edge-to-edge photo layout, 16 photo filters, and more.

At present, Flickr has just pulled a Gmail. Similar to Gmail caused a huge shift in what was offered for email storage, Flickr has a chance to do that for photo storage. Every user now gets 1 terabyte free. Google now offers 15GB of shared storage between Gmail, G+ Photos, and Drive, and it would cost $49.99 per month to upgrade that to 1TB. Flickr is giving it to you for free.

May 17
by Kulbir Kaur 17. May 2013 17:30

Google in their latest move has asked Microsoft to remove Youtube application from Windows Phone 8 devices and app marketplace. However, the reason for this demand is that the app doesn't allow advertisements. Also, it allows users to download videos from Youtube. These are considered to be violations of Youtube's terms of use. As a result, there are no ads that means no revenue for Google and content creators. Therefore, it hits the Google's very source of revenue. According to a letter by Google to Microsoft, Google has asked Microsoft to "immediately withdraw this application from the Windows Phone Store and disable existing downloads of the application by Wednesday, May 22, 2013." As per Microsoft spokesperson, “We'd be more than happy to include advertising but need Google to provide us access to the necessary APIs." It is hoped that the issue is resolved in time and the Windows Phone users do not suffer from this wrangling between two companies. In case, Youtube app is pulled out of Windows Phone store, users can still access youtube.com through their phones browser.

Confirmed: Google+ Hangouts will get SMS and outbound calling support soon

May 17
by kashyap 17. May 2013 16:30

When a new product is released, people tend to move past the good points quickly and focus on what is missing. When Google declared its new Google+ Hangouts integrated messaging system yesterday, there were a few minutes of people saying "Cool!" before the outcry became, "Where is the SMS support?"  However, good news is that Google has confirmed that SMS support is coming soon. The good news was announced by Dori Storbeck, Google's Community Manager for Hangouts and Chat in the comment thread of Google+ post. As per Google's Community Manager for Hangouts and Chat, "SMS integration is coming soon - it is one of our most requested features!"  Therefore, Google fully understands what the users want, but just couldn't get it ready in time for launch. Google has a history of rolling out updates for new products quickly, so it can be expected that the features will be added soon.  Storbeck didn't answered directly to what users on iOS should expect, but it is assumed that SMS would not be able to be integrated there because of restrictions by Apple. However, it is still possible that iOS could see Google Voice integration.

by Munish 16. May 2013 18:30

Google has declared a major update for its Google Map service.  Google Map has got a major design overhaul for the first time in 8 years. When you search for a place, the map shows only the roads and landmarks you need to get there. The new Google Maps instantly changes to highlight information that matters most. The Map service learns from your usage pattern just like Google Now. Google Maps will build new maps with recommendations for places you might enjoy when you do things like setting your home and work locations, star favorite places, write reviews and share with friends. Also, search has been improved in addition to a customized map. Search results are labeled directly on the map with brief place descriptions and icons that highlight business categories with other useful information like restaurants that are recommended by your Google+ friends etc.
