June 18
by kashyap 18. June 2013 16:30

In India, iBall has unveiled a new 3G tablet with 7 inch screen. The tablet, iBall Slide 7334i, features dual SIM with 3G support on both the SIMs, 1 GHz dual core processor, 1 GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory and costs Rs 9,990. This tablet is based on Android 4.1 operating system.

The 7 inch display comes with 1280x600 resolutions. It has a front facing VGA camera and a 2 megapixel camera at the back along with an LED flash. To receive and make calls directly without need for an earphone the tablet has a built in receiver.

The tablet features a wireless FM Radio with retractable antenna and a built in GPS chip. The tablet also has a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connectivity apart from 3G.

But the worrying factor is that tablet has measly 3000 mAh battery which is too small for a tablet. Normally, this size of a battery is noticed in Wi-Fi only 7 inch tablets where they provide mere 3 hours of browsing time. Till they get the test of this device, given that it gets GPS, 3G and wireless radio - all power hungry applications, battery life will cause of major worry for us.

Device Specifications:

  • 7 inch screen display
  • Dual SIM
  • 3G
  • Android 4.1 OS
  • 1280x600 resolutions
  • 2 megapixel back camera with an LED flash
  • VGA front camera
  • FM Radio
  • Wi-Fi
  • 3000 mAh battery
  • GPS
  • Bluetooth

Olive telecom, Yota to bring in 4G LTE devices

June 14
by kashyap 14. June 2013 16:30

Yota, a Russian operator, has joined hands with Olive telecom to bring in TDD LTE (Indian operators are using this technology) based dongles and fixed routers.

However, Yota Devices sold more than 1 million modems and routers in 2012, representing 6 per cent of the LTE device market - modems and routers. Olive Telecom had also joined hands with Israeli vendor Altair Semiconductor to develop products for India's BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) market last year,

The company told The Mobile Indian that it is in talks with biggest operators in LTE space to bring in devices based on LTE technology. However, Olive Telecom has been tight lipped about its plans.

Airtel has unveiled 4G services in four cities as the market for TDD LTE devices in India is very small.  However, many telecoms are likely to launch their services in this year itself.

Reliance Jio infocomm, which is the sole pan India operator for 4G services, might unveil the services by the end of the current year. It has already said that it has finalized many agreements with device vendors, technology partners and content providers. Samsung is accounted to be one of the device partners and Datawind, makers of Aakash tablets, is also likely to be one of the players in the LTE device market.

Aircel is also likely to unveil its services by end of this year. However, they had planned a roll out by December 2012 itself but plan seems to have got delayed and now the officials at Aircel are not ready to commit any new dates of this roll out.

Nokia to stop shipping new Symbian devices later this year

June 13
by kashyap 13. June 2013 16:30

Nokia is set to stop shipment of Smartphone’s based on Symbian platform by this summer. As per the Financial Times, “Nokia is gradually shifting the Smartphone segment entirely to the Microsoft Windows Phone platform. The Nokia 808 PureView will likely to be the last of the Symbian Belle based Smartphone’s.” For its Smartphone’s section, Nokia has joined with Microsoft and adopted Windows Phone platform. However, the Symbian platform was planned to be phased out gradually by 2016.  Nokia declared the Nokia 808 PureView last year and is shipping it since then. At online web store, the Nokia 808 PureView has just sold at half prices than its unveiling prices.

According to Nokia , "It took 22 months to get a Symbian phone out of the door. With Windows Phone, it is less than a year. We spend less time having to tinker with deep-lying code and more time on crafting elements of the experience that make a big difference, such as around photography, maps, music and apps in general."

Nokia wants to focus on the Windows Phone based Lumia series of Smartphone’s in spite of working hard on symbian phones. However, this does not mean the stoppage of sales of existing Symbian units. Only those stocks will be sold which is out in the market. Nokia has passed on the Symbian Belle software development responsibilities to Accenture. Till 2016, the Symbian platform will be supported for the devices. Recently, Nokia has declared its PureView Imaging Technology based and metal body bearing Lumia 925 with 8.7 megapixel camera. The rumours are that the company is going to unveil an EOS dubbed Smartphone with 41 megapixel camera and running Windows Phone platform.

AMD FX-9590 octa-core processor is the first to be officially clocked at 5GHz

June 12
by kashyap 12. June 2013 16:30

AMD recently claimed the title “First-Ever 5 GHz Processor” with its new FX-9590 based on the Piledriver architecture. That is the approved max frequency, not the work of an overclock-happy enthusiast. But the keyword is “max” – this is how fast the 9590 goes with Turbo Core 3.0 topped out and some of the cores powered off.

For the desktop, the FX-9590 packs an octa-core processor (four modules of two cores) and promises ‘new levels of gaming and multimedia performance’. Also, AMD will unveil a slower part – the FX-9570 – which goes up to ‘only’ 4.7GHz (again, that’s the max Turbo Core frequency). However, the company is to declare the base frequencies of both models and the pricing (the current top octa-core is the FX-8350 at 4.0/4.2GHz for $195).

It’s nice to see AMD putting up competition next to Intel as the gigahertz race went out of fashion years before. At present, we suppose the benchmarks (this against the new Haswell chips should be interesting). Initially, the FX-9590 and 9570 will be accessible for pre-built PCs in the summer, the chips will be sold separately afterwards.
