Sony launches Vaio Duo 11 Ultrabook with tablet functionality

Sony has unveiled a new laptop-tablet hybrid, named as the Vaio Duo 11, in India. The Vaio Duo 11 is an ultrabook which is based on Windows 8 platform with extended tablet functionality adding more utility for its users. It permits users to work on it as any regular notebook or users can also choose to slide in its display and use it as any other tablet. The transformation between a notebook and tablet has been made possible with a unique surf-slider design that permits the display to be folded right on top of the keyboard for tablet like usage. Sony has chosen a dual core Intel Core i5 processor running at 1.7 GHz with turbo boos functionality that can clock the processor up to 2.6 GHz if needed.

Sony rolls out ICS for Xperia Go, U and Sola

Sony has declared the roll out of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for its Xperia Go, Xperia U and Xperia Sola Smartphone’s. The update is being rolled out worldwide and therefore the availability of the update will differ from country to country. It is expected that this update will be issued towards the end of the first week of October in India.
Before this there were some speculations that the ICS upgrade will be arrive in the month of September but Sony has delayed issuing the update for some unknown reason. With this update Sony commits a whole new experience to the customers of the Smartphone’s along with the upgraded operating system.
Separate from the update, a specific glove mode will be unveiled to the Xperia Sola smartphone which arrives with Sony's floating touch technology based display. With the help of this new mode, users can use their Xperia Sola while wearing gloves as well, thus there would not be any requirement of special conductive gloves.

Sony's cheapest Android 4.0 phone

Xperia Tipo, the cheapest Xperia phone of Sony is now available for pre-order on Flipkart for just Rs 9,499. This makes it also the cheapest Android smartphone of Sony with Android 4.0.
Presently , Indian handset makers support many Android ICS handsets that are available for less than this price but ICS smartphones from established MNC player cost much more than the Xperia Tipo.

Nokia, Samsung and others team up to tackle indoor location-based services

 On Thursday Nokia announced “In-Location,” a task force made up of 22 companies across different industries that looks to improve indoor location-based services and solutions.  Nokia, Qualcomm , Samsung (005930), and Sony are the founding members  of this task . After a series of pilot programs, the group by 2013 hopes to implement primary solutions based on enhanced Bluetooth 4.0 low-energy technology and Wi-Fi standards into mobile devices.

As per group “The aim of the In-Location Alliance is to act as a pioneer opening up new business streams for indoor environments”. They further added “Indoor positioning is the next frontier of mobile services, offering great opportunities to enhance consumer experiences.” For the benefit of enterprises, the Alliance will drive a world-wide indoor positioning system for use in major venues. Our pilots, along with technical evaluations, are paramount for driving rapid market adoption.”
