Google Nexus 4 has 4G LTE chip inside

November 20
by kashyap 20. November 2012 15:30

According to popular gadget teardown website – iFixit, “The recently released LG made Google Nexus 4 has a Qualcomm made 4G LTE modem chip inside.” Formally, the Nexus 4 phone supports HSPA+">HSPA+ only.
Device Specifications:
• Quad-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 APQ8064 Krait mobile processor
• Adreno 320 graphics chip
• 2 GB RAM
• 3D graphics
• Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update
• 8 megapixel camera

While unveiling it, both Google and LG have not announced the LTE chip. While explaining  the absence of LTE in Nexus 4, senior vice president for mobile and digital content at Google, stated, "A lot of the networks that have deployed LTE haven't scaled completely yet. They're hybrid networks which mean the devices need both radios built into them. When we did the Galaxy Nexus with LTE we had to do just that, and it just wasn't a great user experience."
The iFixit Teardown of Nexus 4 disclosed Qualcomm WTR1605L Seven-Band 4G LTE Chip inside. This transformation has been surprising for many consumers as well as tech enthusiasts. At this time there is no way to use this 4G LTE modem and it would need more than a simple hack to enable using this chip.
As per Rubin, “Hybrid networks make use of both radios built on the motherboard to be used. For instance, if you have a 4G LTE Smartphone, the data connection will be active on 4G LTE while the voice calls would be active on 3G networks. That means the Smartphone would be actually using two different radio frequency bands for two specific purposes. Not to forget that it would consume more battery and also not offer decent real world experience”.
Till now Google has not disclosed any information on the presence of the radio or whether it will be made usable in the future.

Nokia working on Windows RT tablet

October 05
by kashyap 5. October 2012 16:41

According to the latest reports that, "The Finnish handset maker is working on a Windows RT tablet."
Already Nokia and Microsoft are working closely on the Windows Phone 8 front and now this partnership seems to be maturing to spin out a great tablet. However Nokia has not tapped into the tablet market but it surely intends to join the competition. Nokia design Chief has spent a lot of time designing a tablet for the company since March this year. Nokia's chief executive officer has not outrightly denied the queries about the company working a tablet. Therefore, it can be safely assumed that Nokia indeed is working on a tablet but we don't even have the approximate time of its arrival.
Till now the only details available are that the Nokia tablet will run Windows RT OS developed generally for the ARM based mobile processors. Judging by Nokia's current association with Qualcomm for Lumia 820 and Lumia 920, we can expect that the Nokia tablet may have the new quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip inside.
Evidently, the Nokia tablet is being used to test Windows RT based applications for Windows Store. The question arises whether the Nokia tablet will possess compelling hardware and software to match up to strong competitors like Apple's iPad.
