India saw the launch of 27 phones and tablets in June

India saw the launch of 27 phones and tablets in June

27 devices were unveiled by the handset and tablet manufactures for Indian consumers. Out of which 21 were Smartphone’s, four were tablets and two were feature phones. The price range of all these Smartphone’s were from Rs 5,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh. All 21 Smartphone’s were launched last month both from MNC brands and Indian brands. The major trend we observed was that new Smartphone’s outnumbered feature phones. The main reason behind this might be MNC brands like Sony, Motorola and HTC have already stated that they will exit the feature phone business and concentrate only on Smartphone’s. But the unexpected part is that even homegrown brands are no longer focusing on the feature phone segment. Eight feature phones were announced in the month of May but this number decreased to just two in June. Even the price of basic Smartphone’s is almost same as features phones and moreover the first time buyers' market is fast dwindling. Customers are also looking for the upgrades which results into shrinkage of feature phone market.

HTC will not make low-end phones: CEO

HTC will not make low-end phones: CEO

Everyone is aware that HTC’s sales figures last year were not decent enough that’s the reason behind company’s decision to launch limited devices this year but with best of quality to make the most out of the products. The company unveiled HTC One series this year which included HTC X, HTC S and HTC V and the devices are doing quite well. If a company introduces low-end handsets it will help HTC in reaching a larger audience and boosts sales. It has been stated by HTC CEO that the company will not produce low-end handsets as he wants the company’s image to be intact and doesn’t want to destroy it. They will use better material to make better products that offer premium experience. This specifies that will concentrate in making and selling medium to high price phones and try to expand its presence in emerging markets like China and India which are still untapped. Now HTC is facing stiff competition from current leaders like Apple and Samsung. They have eaten HTC’s share by a huge amount in the US and China. Due to this company has to revamp its strategy and still not enter into making low-end phones.
