Nokia, mobile giant has declared the launch of its Nearby application for the S40 OS based feature phones. Now Nokia S40 OS based feature phone will allow the users to look at the places around them. Those phones which do not have GPS can also use this app's web interface to find near-by places of interest.
With the help of this new Nokia Nearby application, users can find the nearest showroom, coffee shop, ATM, transit station etc. Users can also save their favorite places and share them with their friends and family members or anyone through social network. This app also displays reviews, ratings and even phone numbers of places.

This new application for S40 OS based devices is a web based application that has a very small installation or about 400 KB that hardly puts any load on the device and however can be used with devices with low end hardware specifications.
Most of the application requires a working internet connection to function but Nokia Nearby is a web based application, where the Nokia Xpress browser is installed on their phone as well for the application to work on their devices.

by Harcharan singh 23. July 2012 12:55

Firefox OS is an upcoming operating system by Mozilla Corporation. It is an open source OS that mainly intends to increase support for applications coded in HTML5 and make them work on a wide range of devices. The whole idea behind this is to convert all individual user-accessible software running on the device into a kind of a web app which is compatible with HTML5 techniques and device’s interface. This will ultimately make the apps work on the device’s hardware directly using a commonly used script called as JavaScript. Mozilla is planning to initially target Android Smartphones.

Samsung to merge its Bada OS with the Linux-based Tizen

January 16
by pranav 16. January 2012 02:57

Samsung has announced its plans to merge its homegrown smartphone OS - Bada - with the Linux-based Tizen, which was recently created in collaboration with Intel. Launched back in 2010, Bada was meant to feature on Samsung's low-end touchscreen phones. Compared to the feature phone OS found on these phones, Bada was much better because it had an improved user interface and smartphone features such as proper multitasking and native third party application installation through Samsung's own application store. Now, however, with Samsung starting work on Tizen, it makes little sense to keep both the operating systems existing simultaneously. Then there is also the fact that Samsung has Android and Windows Phone devices as well.

So starting this year, Bada will be merged into Tizen and as such, will cease to exist on its own, outside of the devices that are currently running it. Samsung has said that the current Bada applications and the SDK will be backward compatible with the new OS. No mention of whether the current devices will be upgraded to Tizen, although we wouldn't hold our breath for that. Samsung has also mentioned that they will be launching one or two Tizen phones this year.
