Sony Xperia ZU with 6.4 inch display to be announced soon

June 10
by Kamal Pathak 10. June 2013 16:30

Sony Mobile will be rolling out Xperia ZU (Z ultra) soon, according to the Xperiablog. The phone, which has till now been referred by its codename 'Togari', will sport a 6.4-inch 1080p "Triluminos with X-Reality for Mobile" display.

The Triluminos, basically means that the display will be lit by three different (RGB) colored LED backlights and not just usual normal white LED.  This means that the colors will offer more depth and also better contrast. X-reality is the new Sony display technology which is likely to debut with this phone. There will also be a touch technology which will accept touch inputs with anything- pen, pencil, finger anything at all. Sony is likely to use Neonode's MultiSensing technology, which is based on optical infrared light and ‘senses any object and identifies its size, the pressure, depth, speed and even the proximity to any surface’.

The Xperia Z Ultra will sport top of the line hardware including Snapdragon 800 chipset with a 2.2 GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 330 graphics. There will be an 8 megapixel Exmor RS camera sensor and a 2.2 MP front-facing camera. The Xperia Z Ultra will be water resistant with an IP55/IP58 rating (higher than Xperia Z) like the Xperia Z.

Amazingly, phone is going to be super slim with dimension of 179.2 x 92 x 6.5mm. The Xperia Z Ultra might weigh 212 grams. The Android 4.2 based phone will therefore be only 3mm wider but much slimmer than Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 which is currently the largest phablet in the market. We only have the picture of the glass of the Xperia ZU which offers fair idea of the size of the phone. The exact date for the roll out has not been known so far, but the phone might get very premium pricing and is likely to be available in India as well since Sony India has promised early release of phones in Indian market, mostly along with its internal launch.

Samsung GALAXY Note III to be equipped with a 6 inch non-flexible AMOLED display

May 14
by Kamal Pathak 14. May 2013 15:30

In spite of the rumours that Samsung is considering a flexible screen for the Samsung GALAXY Note III, an investment firm in South Korea rule out that the display on the next version of Samsung’s phablet will be made of non-flexible glass. Korea Investment & Securities Co. anticipates that the device will feature a 6 inch AMOLED screen. According to a previous rumour, there was a 5.99 inch display for the Samsung GALAXY Note III. In a report to clients, the investment house says,” it does not believe that Samsung is ready to mass produce flexible OLED screens, and that the Korean based manufacturer needs more time to adopt it for the major models."  As per one report, Samsung Display plans on producing the flexible OLED screens at its A2 P3 line where only 24,000 screens can be at present produced in a month. Fellow Korean manufacturer LG had earlier declared that it would deliver a handset with a flexible display before the end of the year. However, it is also said to be having problems mass-producing the part. As a result, rumour is that LG will delay the launch of a Smartphone with a flexible display. Both Samsung and LG use different technologies in making their flexible screens. In Berlin at IFA 2013, Samsung GALAXY Note III might be launched. However, it is expected to be unveiled in the third quarter of this year.

Foldable tablets in 5 year

January 09
by kashyap 9. January 2013 16:30

Researchers in Canada have developed a revolutionary tablet screen as thin as a sheet of paper that can be easily twisted and dropped without any damage. This new tablet will become available for sale in next five years. Tablet has been developed in collaboration with Plastic Logic and Intel Labs, it could lead to new gadgets that are almost unbreakable and as thin as paper.
The Daily Mail has reported, "The PaperTab is fully interactive with a flexible, high resolution 10.7 inch plastic display developed by Plastic Logic, and powered by the second generation Intel CoreTM i5 Processor".
Although, this is not the only attempt to create a foldable display .Samsung has in fact moved closer to producing its Youm displays, which are ultra thin Amoled panels that will be flexible, stretchable, rollable and foldable like a piece of paper. Samsung will not make fully foldable gadgets, which kind of negates the benefit that this glass offers.
As stated by the chief executive officer of Plastic Logic, "Plastic Logic's flexible plastic displays allow a natural human interaction with electronic paper, being lighter, thinner and more robust compared with today's standard glass-based displays".
Researchers plan to unveil the screen at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. They have displayed the concept for new desktop, using sheets of paper for each app rather than a traditional screen with windows. As an alternative, using various apps or windows on a single display, users have ten or more interactive displays or PaperTabs, each being a different app. These tabs can also be used as e-books, with users simply bending the screen to turn pages.
As per the director of Queen's University's Human Media Lab, "Using several PaperTabs makes it much easier to work with multiple documents". For instance, PaperTab permits a user to send a photo simply by tapping one PaperTab showing a draft email with another PaperTab showing the photo. The photo is then automatically attached to the draft email. The email is sent either by placing the PaperTab in an out tray, or by bending the top corner of the display. Likewise, a larger drawing or display is created simply by placing two or more PaperTabs side by side. Intel claims the technology could eventually replace traditional screens altogether.
Research Scientist at Intel stated," Within five to ten years, most computers, from ultra-notebooks to tablets, will look and feel just like sheets of printed color paper".
