Blackberry announces BBM for Android and iOS devices

May 15
by Munish 15. May 2013 18:30

Blackberry startled everyone with an unexpected announcement. Blackberry CEO, Thorsten Heins, formally declared that their much talked messaging service, the Blackberry Messenger (BBM) will be coming to iOS and Android this summer.  As per Blackberry CEO, “It is a state of confidence. The BB10 platform is so strong and the response has been so good that the time is right for BBM to become an independent mobile messaging platform.” The Android version of BBM would be compatible with version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) but would support iOS hardware running iOS 6. The introduction of BBM on the dominant mobile OS would provide an opportunity to Android and iOS users to interact with the 60 million BBM users. This announcement is good news for people with friends still using Blackberry devices.  Some claim that Blackberry’s move is too late with Whatsapp’s dominance while others just claim that this is yet another reason not to buy a Blackberry.

Skype for BlackBerry Z10 now available

May 13
by Munish 13. May 2013 18:30

You can download Skype from BlackBerry world if you are running BlackBerry 10.1 OS on your Z10. Skype was available more or less with the release of the QWERTY packing BlackBerry Q10 near the end of last month. However, BlackBerry 10.1 OS is required for it to work on the full screen of your Z10. It is still listed as Skype (Preview) which means beta. OS 10.1 has not made any official rounds. The best thing about BlackBerry devices is that it is fairly a simple process to try out different OS builds. However, you might want to wait until your carrier rolls out a vetted build if you are not comfortable with installing unofficial OS versions. As far as features are concerned, the app is same as what we had for the Q10 and supports all the latest goodies, video & voice calls, pictures, videos, and integration with your Windows Live account.

BlackBerry Z10 users have a purpose to be happy today, as Canadian company started seeding the first main update for their Smartphone’s. BlackBerry has started the rollout of the BlackBerry OS version 10. 1. It requires a download of about 1GB.

There is no official modified changelog offered with this update but we already knew what to expect thanks to the earlier seeded developers build. Among the major novelties brought by BlackBerry 10.1 are HDR stills, PIN-to-PIN messaging, APN edition, improved BlackBerry World store, improved text picker. The update is progressing out steadily, so it may not be available in your country yet. BlackBerry hasn't offered a detailed schedule for but it is hoped that the release won't take more than a couple of weeks to go global.

RIM to announce six BlackBerry 10 devices in 2013

January 11
by Kulbir Kaur 11. January 2013 16:30

According to the chief marketing officer of the company, "RIM is set to unveil at least six BlackBerry 10 devices in 2013.” Research In Motion is expected to announce the launch of its BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system based L-series and N-series devices on January 30.
The BlackBerry Z10 will be the first device with the new operating system which will be an all touchscreen interface supporting Smartphone while the N-series device would have both touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard.
Besides these two devices, the company has at least four more device launches planned for this year. All these six devices are targeted at different price point and audience. As per chief marketing officer, Boulben, “The new BlackBerry 10 devices would be global devices since there would not be any exclusive carrier partnerships like the company did in the past.”
Similar to BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry N-series, the company has also planned devices for the entry level segment to help the active BlackBerry customers to enjoy BlackBerry 10 OS. We expect that the company will give due importance to Indian market and make the new devices available as rapidly as possible.
