New Skype 3.0 app arrives, supports Android tablets

Skype, the most popular internet based voice and video calls service has updated its official app to support Android tablets. Named as the Skype 3.0, this app carries support for Android tablets with a front facing camera to make video calls as well. With the help of this new Skype 3.0, Android device users can sign in to a Microsoft account and they can merge their contact list of Live Messenger to Skype. For tablets, Skype has updated the user interface and made it compatible to larger screens.
This new Skype 3.0 carries support for Android tablets of various sizes, like Galaxy Tab 2, Google Nexus 7, Acer Iconia, Asus Transformer Prime, Motorola Xoom and Sony Tablet S. Users can download the new Skype 3.0 app for Android Tablets and Smartphone’s from the Google Play Store.

Asus promises Android Jelly Bean for all Transformer tablets

According to the latest reports, “Asus has started working to release the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the Transformer family of tablets”.  Yet, there was no time period specified for the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update roll out. This new update comes up with the new set of features and several improvements under the hood. Exclusively meant for the tablets, the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update brings a new feature called as Multiple User Accounts. This new Multiple User Accounts feature allow the tablet users to create a user accounts and each user can have a separate home screen, widgets, apps, background and games. But the important point is that creating more user accounts could also mean relatively less space per user. Recently Asus had pushed out the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the Transformer Prime TF201 tablet.
The other Transformer Infinity TF300 and TF700 tablets will also receive the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update soon. WiFi only tablets will get the updates initially followed by WiFi+3G tablets.

Yesterday Asus has unveiled a Vivo Tab RT & a notebook-tablet hybrid 'Taichi', running on Windows RT OS in India. In the coming two months, Asus will make its entry into the low-priced tablet segment by launching a 7 inch tablet in India. As per the managing director of  Asus India, "Asus will launch a sub Rs 15,000 Android Jelly Bean based 7 inch tablet for India in January."
He further added, "Till now we didn't have a tablet catering to the entry level buyers in the country, which is quite a huge market, but with the launch of 7 inch tab in January, Asus will address this issue." The cost of Vivo Tab RT is Rs 61,999 while Taichi is of Rs 1,39,999. Both the devices will be available in the market from December onwards. When Asus Taichi lid is closed, it works like a tablet with its upper display and when opened, it acts like a notebook with its lower display and keyboard.

Google announces 32 GB Nexus 7 tablet with 3G model

Finally Google has declared higher storage bearing Asus Nexus 7 tablet model. Google in association Asus introduced an affordable Android OS based tablet - Nexus 7 with a compelling hardware. Google and Asus offered Nexus 7 in 8 GB and 16 GB storage options. Now the company has put an end to the 8 GB model and instead added new 32 GB on-board storage offering model.

Project Butter update has been integrated that aims to provide 60 frames per second experience with native user interface and apps.

• 32 GB onboard storage
• Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
• Quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 mobile processor
• 1 GB RAM
• 7-inch IPS panel display
• 1280 x 800 pixel resolution natively

The ASUS Google Nexus 7 line up now comprises of 16 GB Nexus 7 WiFi for $199 (Rs 10,600 approximately), 32 GB Nexus 7 WiFi for $250 (Rs. 13,250 approximately) and 32 GB Nexus 7 WiFi+3G model for $299 (Rs 15,900 approximately).  All the models are available at Google Play store and several other participating online as well as offline retailers.

Till now ASUS and Google has not formally announced the Nexus 7 tablet for India. It is expected that announcement to take place in coming weeks along with the new LG Google Nexus 4 smartphone announcement.
