Jelly Bean deemed safest version of Android yet; iOS still way more secure

Google’s latest version of its Android mobile operating system, Jelly Bean, is the deemed to be the safest version available. Ars Technica reported that the properly fortified platform was initially designed to defend users from malicious installations as per the industry-standard defense mechanism. Jelly Bean is the original and initial version of Android for appropriately implementing address space layout randomization (ASLR) protection, which randomizes the memory locations for the library, heap, stack, and other OS data structures.
ASLR and data execution prevention in combination will be able to safeguard users from hacks that exploit memory corruption bugs. The same technology was used in Ice Cream Sandwich earlier but it was not able to randomize the locations of various commands and was mostly unsuccessful at avoid real-world attacks.
Principal research consultant for security firm Accuvant, Charlie Miller told Ars Technica, “As long as there’s anything that’s not randomized, then it (ASLR) doesn’t work, because as long as the attacker knows something is in the same spot, they can use that to break out of everything else,”
According to the report, for the past 16 months Apple’s iOS platform has featured fully implemented ASLR and DEP.  The Cupertino-based company too has employed a code signing technology that requires a valid digital signature to stop unauthorized applications from running on a device. However, Google has not yet initiated such a technology into its mobile operating system to defend unauthorized applications.

PNB introduces balance over missed call service

Majority  banks in India offer balance enquiry services through SMS or apps . Now Punjab National Bank (PNB) too has initiated a new balance inquiry service  so that its  customers are aware of their savings account balance just by giving a missed call. PNB customers can give a missed call from their registered mobile number on 18001802222 or 01202490000.
Disconnect the call after the enquiry is important as it will not be automatically disconnected like our normal calls.  If your mobile number is not registered with your PNB account you can get it registered by calling a PNB customer care executive and answering verification questions.
This is the first time missed call balance enquiry is launched by any bank in the country. Before this missed call alert services concept was used by Anna Hazare's team to connect with fellow Indians for his campaign to fight against corruption.
