RIM might split its business and sell its handset business: The Sunday Times

We all know that Research In Motion (RIM) is not doing great in the current Smartphone and Tablet market. Its BlackBerry Smartphone’s and Playbook have failed to keep up with the advancements of Android and iOS running devices. It has been reported that Canada-based giant is considering to splitting its business into two. One part will include BlackBerry handset manufacturing business and the other would be the Messaging which includes BBM, BIS and BES. In order to bring their company back on track and make it more competitive they are focusing on separation plan. RIM has hired JP Morgan and RBC Capital last month to look into its strategic options and help the company come out of the bad times that it has been witnessing since almost a year. They may either separate the division or sell the company. According to the latest reports ‘potential buyers’ include Amazon and Facebook. It has also been stated that if RIM doesn’t separates’ the company and keeps it intact, then it could see a large amount of its stake to Microsoft, in order to survive.
Reacting to this report RIM’s spokesperson has said, RIM has hired advisers to help the Company look at ways to leverage the BlackBerry platform through partnerships, licensing opportunities and strategic business model alternatives. It has been stated by Thorsten on the Company’s fourth-quarter earnings call that best way to drive value for our stakeholders, is to execute on our plan to turn the company around.  Lets hope that the company survives through all the ups and downs with a bang when its BlackBerry 10 Smartphone’s will be launched in the next few months.

Samsung Galaxy S III LTE version with quad-core processor coming soon

The Galaxy S III was launched with a quad-core processor. Samsung confirmed that if you want an LTE version then you would have to sacrifice the quad-core processor for a dual-core one as the Exynos chip doesn’t support the LTE radio. The US, Japanese and Canadian versions of the Galaxy S III are all the similar and run on a dual-core processor with LTE radio and 2GB of RAM. It has been reported that new version of the S III is likely to be launched in Korea which will go on to have a quad-core processor and LTE radio on board. If this version of Samsung is launched it will go on to be the first ever quad-core processor equipped Smartphone that will have LTE support as well. The new Korean LTE Galaxy S III will feature quad-Core Exynos application processor and an LTE modem chip separately. This will make the handset gain 9mm in thickness which is a 0.4mm gain on the standard model. It will also have 2,100mAh battery.

Google to release Siri rival?

At this week's I/O conference Google is expected to launch its own voice assistance capability for Android.Android already has a voice assistant in the form of Android Voice Actions system which is limited one. But this new product which has been code-named Majel is expected to be a significant one. It has been hinted by HTC about Siri rival through its Twitter and Facebook page, Samsung already has something called S-Voice recently released on the Samsung Galaxy SIII, even LG week revealed Quick Voice, a personal voice-control assistant which features natural-language processing technology, write emails, built-in support for interactivity with 11 apps at its start. Even the Micromax has rolled out something called AISHA.
By far Siri on iPhone is the most praised voice assistance service. If Google manages to use its resources well, this new product will have fabulous capabilities. Google has capabilities in almost all the spoken language in the world and a deep understanding of them.
But then knowing a language and using that knowledge to devise a new application are two entirely different things. By looking at the Google's track record in creating technologies, we are very hopeful of a well made and useful application that can potentially be a game changer. This can bring voice activation tech to the masses as Android phones are much cheaper than that of iPhone.
