RIM launches BlackBerry Curve 9320; may come to India in June

Research In Motion (RIM) has announced the launch of another phone with BlackBerry 7.1 operating system. This phone has the same features and specifications as the Curve 9220 but with this one more feature has been added to BlackBerry Curve 9320 i.e. WiFi hotspot functionality. This is the first curve series phone to be launched with this feature. His feature has the ability to act as a modem and share internet with up to five different devices. Other advantage of this Smartphone is BBM button which is used for instant access to BlackBerry Messenger. Still the pricing and availability details are not announced by the company but it is expected that this Smartphone will also fall under budget Smartphone category with price of Rs 12,000 for the Indian market. It may be launched next month (June).

Apple extends free iCloud offer for MobileMe users

Good News for the MobileMe subscribers. Apple has announced that MobileMe subscribers who have switched to iCloud will get the same storage capacity that they had with the former till September 30 instead of June 30. Last year the company planned to integrate its subscription based cloud services - MobileMe, with its new iCloud services. But later on they stated that MobileMe users who have paid for 20 GB storage will get the same storage space on iCloud till June 30, and after that they will have to pay for it. They can also make the usage of 5 GB of storage space that Apple provides to all. It has been reported that MobileMe members using 20 GB purchased storage receive a complimentary iCloud storage upgrade of 20 GB, and accounts with additional purchased storage (40 GB to 60 GB) receive a complimentary upgrade of 50 GB after moving to iCloud. iOS and Mac OS X users with the help of iCloud services can sync their mail, documents, pictures and other data to a cloud storage account.

Currently, iCloud offers:

  • 10 GB additional storage annually for $20 (Rs 1,000 approximately)
  • 20 GB additional storage annually at $40 (Rs 2,000 approximately)
  • 50 GB additional storage annually for $100 (Rs 5,000 approximately).

Mobiles constitute 10% of total Internet access globally

Today we are focusing on mobile devices including Smartphone’s and tablets rather than personal computers. It has been reported that mobile devices now accounts for 10% of all Internet usage worldwide. It is due to the rise in the usage of Smartphone’s and tablets. Since 2010 web access from mobile devices has increased more than double which was earlier just 3.81%. Asia has biggest contribution in terms of total net usage from mobile devices i.e. 18%. Europe and Africa has also shown increasing trend in mobile based internet surfing. Pingdom has carried out the research which tracks the uptime, downtime, and performance of websites. It has also stated that in country like India where PCs are still not in the affordable range, consumers move to Smartphone’s and affordable tablets to access the internet. With this high pace rate it is expected that mobile internet access can grow drastically in the coming years.

Two new additions Sony Xperia GX (Hayabusa) and Xperia SX to Xperia line has been announced today by Sony. They both are the first LTE-capable Smartphone’s for its consumers in Japan. Yesterday Sony LT29i Hayabusa images were leaked which were matched with official images of the Xperia GX.

  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor for faster performance.
  • 16GB internal flash storage.
