Samsung and Apple rake in 99% of mobile profits

Samsung and Apple rake in 99% of mobile profits

Few days ago, we learned that the Smartphone market is dominated by two brands, i.e. Apple and Samsung and it would not be wrong to call Apple a profit machine, but the numbers for just how dominant are a bit surprising. It was predicted that two brands would combine for 90% of profits, but that may not even be high enough.
As per the figures from Asymco, the combine profit of both the brands in Q1 of the current year was 99%, wherein Apple’s profit was 73% and Samsung’s profit was 26%. It must be noted that Asymco only counts for those companies who manufacture mobile handsets and never makes it clear what companies are included in.
It is impressive to see that Smartphone market has grown tremendously and so is the Apple’s profit within the market. If we see at Asymco’s data for last two years the total profits from 8 vendors in Q1 was just $5.3 billion and profits generated in Q1 this year were $14.4 billion. And Apple alone made up about $10.5 billion of that number.

iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 gets untethered jailbreak

Things are working in positive trend for Users of iPhone 4 who were either running an older version of iOS for the jailbreak or running iOS 5.1 but was waiting for proper untethered jailbreak. It has been tweeted by iOS security researcher pod2g that his iPhone 4 running on iOS 5.1 is now untethered. The difference between tethered and untethered jailbreak is that tethered means you have to re-jailbreak every time the device reboots while on other hand untethered means you’re jailbroken until you update to a new version of iOS.  It has been reported that this update will be available in market soon and will be available for its masses. Till now it works only tethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4 that means you will have to keep your phone switched on or you will lose it and have to do it all over again. Let’s hope that this version is released soon.
