Indian Railways to offer Internet in trains, soon

While travelling by train in India, you were not able to use internet services because of bad connectivity by your mobile operator to curb this problem Indian Railways have come up with Internet Services in the train. Now the Indian Railways is going to offer the Internet services to its passengers, directly into the coaches.

Thanks to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) who has granted the permission to Indian Railways to make use of the KU band frequency that ISRO makes use of and link its satellite to provide Internet. Two years ago Indian Railway declared that this service will be available to its passengers on-board but the project was never implemented.

Now it will be under pilot testing on-board the Howrah Rajdhani Express. If the user wants to use the internet services in Train, he/ she just have to dial the number taken from TT. After that user will be provided with a password which when entered by them gives them access to the world of Internet in their train coach. During this Testing phase this service is free of cost for passengers and a Mumbai based company has been rope in to provide all the custom-made equipments and providing the service. The approximate cost of implementation of the project is Rs.6.30 crore. It is a great step taken by Indian Railways.

Ice Cream Sandwich installed on nearly 5% of Android devices

Android platform is gaining lot of importance these days and as a result the developers of this platform compiled data for different Android OS. As per this data, Android’s version 2.3 is the mostly installed version in handsets with a 64.4% share. After that 63.9% of mobile devices are running on Android version 2.3.3 to 2.3.7. The percentage of devices with Android Froyo OS is 20.9% which shows that people who are using the same version want their contract to get expire so that they can upgrade to the next version.

The data also mentioned that only 4.9% of devices currently have Android 4.0 and higher version. If we look on the exact figures then we can see that 4.4% devices are powered by 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 Android versions and only .5% covers Android 4.0 to 4.0.2 versions. Amongst the older versions, 5.5% of the devices are using Android 2.1; only .7% devices are on Android 1.6 version and .3% devices are on Android 1.5 version.

The penetration rate of Android 4.0 is lower as of now, but will increase as more devices come out of box with the latest version of Google’s open source OS.
