Some relevant information about Nvidia’s plan for the next-generation of its mobile processing chip, Tegra, has been leaked. The Tegra 4 chipset will be using the same 4-PLUS-1 configuration as the Tegra 3 but will now have ARM A15 cores. The source claims to have slides which give info about the various devices and the clock speeds of the new upcoming chips.

The new chipset will run at between 1.2GHz and 2.0GHz and there will be three A15-based variants.  The T40 which will run at 1.8GHz, while the T43 at 2.0GHz. The AP40 will be for mainstream, running at between 1.2GHz and 1.8GHz. Lastly the SP3X will use the older A9 cores with the 4-PLUS-1 configuration but it will have speeds of 1.2GHz to 2.0GHz paired with an LTE and HSPA+ modem.  The T40 is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2013 and the rest might come later in the third quarter. There is also speculation that these new chipsets might be used in ultraportable laptops and netbooks.

Indian Govt. gets access to RIM's BBM service, can now spy on you

April 09
by Jashan 9. April 2012 17:40

The war of words between the Government of India and Research In Motion (RIM) over the encryption of messages on RIM’s BlackBerry Messenger service finally seems to have come to an end, as RIM is almost done with all the process to grant the Indian Government access to its servers based in Mumbai. Now Indian Government has got all the requires access to RIM’s BBM service and can now spy over the BBM messages of any BlackBerry user freely, but yes there is a permission needed to access them from the Centre.

The issue arose between the Canadian giant and the Government when the latter felt that RIM’s encrypted BBM service goes on to be a national threat because the Government couldn’t get access to RIM’s servers as they were based in Canada and also the 256 bit encryption was too difficult for the agencies to crack. So in order to get access, the Indian government issued several notices to RIM, which forced the BlackBerry makers to establish a new server location in Mumbai, enabling the government to have access freely and monitor any ‘terrorist’ plotting that might be taking place via BBM and BIS services.

If the government  want to tap into any users BBM activities, they have to get an approval from the Centre after which they can direct any direct any Service Provider to give them access to the BBM messages of that particular user. The carriers will also tap BBM messages and share them with the government whenever they are requested to do so. Well this step is indeed a breach of privacy of any user but then the government is never here to listen to them when it comes to national security. So if you are a BBM user, just be a little careful before sharing any content which could get you in trouble.

Karbonn Mobiles have put up the Smart Tab 1 on their website, which is another one of those 7-inch tablets which will be running Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich. Intel processor equipped Lenovo K800 scores decent benchmark results

April 09
by kashyap 9. April 2012 15:40

According to sources, Lenovo will be launching the first ever Intel Medfield processor equipped smartphone, the K800 in about two months of time in China. Till then we have some benchmark results of the smartphone which aren’t that mind-blowing, but yes the numbers are pretty close to the Samsung Galaxy Note. The K800 will have a 1.6GHz Atom Z2460 processor and will be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, however for the benchmark testing, the prototype was running on Android 2.3.7. The graphics performance wasn’t at its highest, but it managed a decent overall score.

While K800 will be the first Intel processor powered smartphone, it is commendable that the smartphone came pretty close to the biggies including the Samsung Galaxy Note, HTC One X and HTC One S. The K800 did beat the One X and One S in the Sun Spider 0.91 JavaScript test, where it only took 1,270ms to complete. Let’s hope after further testing and improvements the smartphone will be even better.

Lenovo unveils 9.7″ IdeaTab S2109 with Android Ice Cream Sandwich

April 09
by jasmeet 9. April 2012 14:40

Lenovo just introduced the latest addition to its lineup of Android-powered tablets. The Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 runs on Ice Cream Sandwich and packs a 9.7″ 4:3 IPS LCD with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels (sound familiar?). The IdeaTab packs a standard MicroUSB jack for charging and data transfers, while a micro HDMI enables high-res TV-output. The on-board microSD card slot makes storage upgrades a breeze, while the four speakers at the back aim to deliver the best audio in the tablet world.

The 8.9mm slim gunmetal unibody of the Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 should give it a pretty sophisticated look, while the battery the Chinese managed to squeeze inside should enable a run time of 10 hours on a single charge. Strangely enough, Lenovo didn’t disclose the chipset powering the S2109, but Tegra 3 is tipped as the most likely option.
