Ubisoft planning cloud based storage for mobile games

April 02
by Jashan 2. April 2012 17:16

International multi platform video game software developer, Ubisoft seems to be working on revolutionizing  the mobile gaming industry with its new technology that will allow players or users to save their game related data on the cloud storage. The benefit of having cloud based storage is that you can play the same game from any other device and that too from the same level from where you left playing on another device. Chris also confirmed that Ubisoft's forthcoming game Ghost Recon Commander will utilize cloud storage, allowing you to access the game on multiple platforms including Facebook, mobile and tablet devices.

Game's generally create smaller user data files that are saved on the devices which allows the devices to remember what stage or level the user was playing last time. If that same data is made available online, the games can be played from any platform. So this technology makes ultimate sense for users having multiple devices that too with different operating systems as well. So just imagine yourself playing a Boss Fight on your Android phone and just to do it better, you move to your tablet and continue the game from where you left. Although the plan sounds really nice the real world usage of this new technology depends on the ability of the developers and how well they implement the idea. As Ubisoft has told, it will be including the new tech in its upcoming games so it's just a matter for time before we know that.

After slashing prices of several BlackBerry smartphones, Research In Motion (RIM) has now re-launched its Curve 8530 in India for Rs 11,990, almost 12 per cent lesser than its previous price of Rs 13,500. Incidentally, Curve 8530 is the CDMA version of BlackBerry's popular GSM device - Curve 8520, whose price has recently been deducted to Rs 8,999 from its earlier price of Rs 10,990.

According to PTI, which reported this, RIM is also mulling to launch more CDMA smartphones in India. "Smartphones are getting popular day by day, but a majority of these are on GSM technology. While CDMA mobile phones have been popular, there is a very little choice for consumers when it comes to CDMA smartphones. And that is why we are re-launching Curve 8530," RIM India head of CDMA business, Francis Jose was quoted as saying by the news agency.

Nokia updates its Maps app with real-time traffic updates

April 02
by kashyap 2. April 2012 15:16

Nokia has launched a free real-time traffic updates service for its Maps/Drive applications. Currently, the service is live only in Mumbai and Delhi, but Nokia is promising more cities to benefit from the service in the near future.

The Fins say they've covered as much as 1,500km of the road system across the two cities and have shared a bit about the way their real-time traffic updates service works. Interestingly enough, if you own a Nokia running Symbian or Windows Phone and use the Maps app, you are the backbone of the service. That's because Nokia takes the data from its users who use location services on their Nokia phones and use them as "probes", as is the popular term in the navigation industry. Using that information, Nokia is able to determine if the traffic is busy or light and assign it a color from red to green accordingly.
