The time of super high-resolution displays has already come with pixel densities of over 440ppi on most high-end Smartphone’s today. However, as the technology advances we might soon see even sharper screens arrive. So, Qualcomm demonstrates one of its future technologies. The company reveals its Mirasol front-lit power efficient 5.1-inch 2560 x 1440 pixel screen with a density of the whopping 577dpi. The Mirasol technology differs a lot from the current crop of LCD/OLED displays. It actually reflects light that falls on it in a way that is close to what we see in nature. However, the display does not have the same vibrant colors as on modern displays. It is colorful and not black & white like most e-ink. Also, it is nearly 6 times more power efficient.

Apart from sharpness, being close to the way we see things in nature and not tiring the eyes so much is of its huge benefits. However, Qualcomm is still a couple of years away from bringing it to mass market which is a bad news. But the company is already showing early prototypes of the screen in a smart watch and a handset.

NVIDIA Tegra 4i already has support for LTE-Advanced, getting VoLTE soon

by Kulbir Kaur 22. May 2013 17:30

The NVIDIA Tegra 4i has been considered as a cheaper, smaller, and more power-efficient version of NVIDIA's current top-of-the-line offering of the Tegra 4. But the 4i is already getting an upgrade to support LTE-Advanced without changing the hardware at all. Also, it may get VoLTE support soon. NVIDIA is using a "software-defined modem" in the Tegra 4i, so these features can be added afterwards with simple software updates. Hence, instead of just supporting the current 100Mbps LTE, it is now also capable of handling 150Mbps LTE-Advanced service that is expected to start releasing by the end of the year.

As per NVIDIA, it is also working on an update to add VoLTE to the 4i, which is also expected to start rolling out on Verizon and AT&T by the end of the year. A "software-defined modem" seems pretty amazing.

Few days ago, the photo enhancement feature was introduced by Google for the web version of Google+. Google+ Android app comes with the ability to auto-backup or auto-upload user's pictures taken through their phone for a private album on the cloud storage.  Users can simply allow or select which pictures they want to share with other users.

An interesting feature of the updated app is that before uploading or saving the pictures to the cloud, users can use tweaks like cropping, rotating, and exposure adjustments with some of the popular filters on the pictures. During Google I/O, Google's "Auto-awesome" feature is now available in the app.

Without the users having to ask the app to do, Auto Awesome feature analyses a series of photos, and processes them to make awesome picture. It involves turning a burst of photos into an animated GIF, or a collage. It can join three photos captured at different exposure levels into a single high dynamic range image and can connect separate photos into a panorama.

Users can pick and display the best photos from an album on the main page of that album with this new app.  Without having the need to buy additional space, users can upload and store free videos up to 15 minutes of length up to 1080p resolution. Users will have to buy additional space for longer videos.
